Whiteman Park extends over 3600 hectares and includes pristine bushland, the Men of the Trees Children's Forest, farmland, and various recreational areas. Several kilometres of bike and walk paths wind through the bush and farmland. The Park is named after Mr Lew Whiteman, who originally owned the land around Mussel Pool. This land was bought from him and amalgamated with land bought from various other landowners to create Whiteman Park. Mussel Pool remains a popular picnic area. It is part of the Bennett Brook and is named after the freshwater mussels that still live there.
