I commenced learning the art of Pottery at Duncraig/Sorrento Recreation centre with Jane Watkins as lecturer in the early 80’s. It didn’t take too long, before I realised that I had found a hobby so fulfilling, that it would sustain me for over 20 years.
I have done various courses throughout that time (TAFE) which have all added to my experience. I am currently a student with Jenny Miller-Nixon (four years).
My early interest was in hand-building old hotels, houses, carts etc, but like most things, I have grown and changed.
I now make wheel thrown pots, but have a special interest in making tall forms (sculptural) which have been saggar or raku fired. I’m currently learning the coil and throw technique, enabling the making of larger pots. Only time will tell if I master this!
I strongly believe, that only by learning and experiencing the different techniques involved with the art of ceramics, can you fully appreciate every aspect of the craft.
Being a member of the Whiteman Park Pottery group is a constant inspiration, and challenges me to try new and different things, especially for our various exhibitions throughout each year.
